November Outing revealed – you are invited to join us

on Sunday 29 november at 1pm

for

Ghosts of GranadaLand – an archaeological ramble!

'From the North, this is Granada.'

meet in the mosi café…

Join us for a November exploration into the highs and lows of a Manchester Modernist Legend, GranadaLand, starting at the MOSI café, walking through the remains of its cultural and architectural landscape, ending at Urbis around 3pm for a warming cuppa and the fabulous Ghosts of Winter Hill exhibition now showing at urbis!

Granada tv was the UK’s first ever purpose built tv studios. It opened in 1956, predating BBC’s television centre by four years and was designed by Sir Ralph Tubbs, who famously built the Festival of Britain’s Dome of Discovery. Granada swiftly developed a strong northern identity, creating programmes about the north of England, reflecting and reiterating regions and the city’s independent and counter cultural spirit.

Read this great overview of the show and interview with Phil griffin, the man behind the exhibition, to whet your appetite:

'Manchester, Television & the City: Ghosts of Winter Hill' is at Urbis from 4 November 2009 - April 2010.

Free entry.  see you there - All welcome
